In our excitement over cheering for our national teams and the heat of competition, sometimes we can forget that our closest competitors are also our closest friends. Like siblings fighting for attention, we are also the first to come to each others defence when needed. Tom Brokaw did a great ‘intro to Canada’ prior to the Vancouver Olympics for US viewers. I think it’s even more important for Canadians to see this though, and realize that after our olympic hockey fever has passed, we won’t be able to tell the difference when these players go back to their NHL teams. They are colleagues, friends and brothers, just like Canada and the USA.
Now originally, I had the video clip here, playing nicely in the black box below. NBC, however, apparently realized that *people* were actually *watching* this material, and in their wisdom invoked copyright, removing access to the clip. Someone should tell NBC that this isn’t 1970 anymore and that sharing entertaining clips can possibly result in MORE PEOPLE WATCHING THEIR PROGRAM. But that’s just crazy talk….
