Movies & Shows

Movies, shows and other entertainment are always more interesting if you can share your experience with others.  Sometimes it’s just to warn them not to see something, other times it’s to encourage others to see something unbelievably good!  If I see something particularly good, or particularly bad, I’ll share it here.  I’d love to read your comments on the same item!  If you want to do the same and share your views on something, just post in a comment to this section.

  1. Just watched one of the funniest and most entertaining videos I’ve seen all year! It’s the William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy appearance (supposedly to answer audience questions) at DragonCon. You can catch the whole hour on YouTube, but there are 7 videos to watch (due to the ~10 minutes limit per video). It is well worth it! After 44 years (by their count) of working together, you see two old friends who know each other too well, engaging in personal, but still very entertaining, banter about their lives, careers and plans. As funny as Martin & Lewis in their prime (from what I’ve heard), or Rowan & Martin, or the Smothers Brothers. They could take this act on the road and be sold out every night – but of course, then it wouldn’t be special. Check out the first video, and I guarantee you’ll continue through all 7 on YouTube.

  2. You can read the details about ‘My Winnipeg’ by film maker Guy Maddin, on the main blog page, but here’s my summary:

I’m glad we didn’t pay to go see ‘My Winnipeg’ and certainly wouldn’t watch it a second time. However, I’m also glad that we finally did see it, since it had received so much attention. I’m at a loss to understand the critical acclaim, since it seems to be a rather pedestrian – perhaps even sophomoric – film. In my (unsophisticated) viewers perspective: ‘My Winnipeg’ was initially interesting, but I was ready for it to be over about 1/2 way through, and watching it through to the end did not provide any additional value or sense that the story was resolved by the end.
