How to do an authentic 21st Century Wedding

This is a TRUE 21st century wedding, leveraging online networking, email, Facebook, Twitter, Paypal and webcasting to do a wedding that is simple, affordable, reduced stress and allows geographically distant friends and family to participate the same as everyone else. Now, it doesn’t hurt that the happy couple are both working in the social media/engagement space and use these technologies 24/7, so this is their natural environment.

If you’d like to see how they are doing this, all the details are on this website, including how they met, ceremony information, webcast link (on the big day) and gift/donations information – including using the ‘traditional’ mail methods ;)

I know it’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a way to use social networking and media for what is normally a very ‘traditional’ event, keep an eye on this couple!

It’s an increasing challenge for social groups and organizations to understand how all this new social networking fits into their traditional environment. In some ways, businesses are easier (although not without challenges!) because at least there are definable customer service or revenue drivers to build a business case. For volunteer, non-profit and faith-based organizations (yes, this means traditional churches too!), it’s much more difficult for traditional members to understand the new methods of communication, and more likely that the culture will be resistant to changes in communication style.

Ian Adnams, a communications professional who has been working with this ‘new media’ (is there really such a thing?) since the beginning, can provide some insights and assistance with this special area.
